Caravan

Dear Parent’s,
We need your help!!! We need you to walk your child to the Caravan Opening Room and sign them in. This assures that they have made it safely to us. I would hate for an hour to go by and then we realize that your child never made it from the lobby to the class room.
We also need you to come to the gym to sign them out at 7:30 pm. This assures that they have made it safely back to you. Our volunteers care deeply about your child and want to make sure that every child is safe.

Caravan

We are off to a good start in Caravan. We have an excited group of children. We have wonderful teachers and volunteers. We have great parents who care about their children’s spiritual growth. We have a supportive church. We are truly blessed by God. I look forward to what this year will bring.

Last night we learned:

Benson Buddies started learning about The Park. Their Bible Verse was “In the beginning God created the heavens and the earth” (Genesis1:1). The purpose of this lesson is to help the children recognize that God gave people the responsibility to care for the world He made.

Searchers started learning about sports and fitness. Their Bible Verse was “Stand firm then, with the belt of truth buckled around your waist, with the breastplate of righteousness in place, and with your feet fitted with the readiness that comes from the gospel of peace. In addition to all this, take up the shield of faith, with which you can extinguish all the flaming arrows of the evil one. Take the helmet of salvation and the sword of the Spirit, which is the word of God” (Ephesians 6:14-17).

Explorer’s class started learning about cooking. Their Bible Verse was “(God) makes … plants for man to cultivate- bringing forth food from the earth… and bread that sustains his heart” (Psalm 104:14-15).

Adventurer’s class started learning about entertainment. Their Bible Verse was “Blessed is the man who will eat the feast in the kingdom of God” (Luke 14:15b).

Things to remember:

·Please walk your child to the game room and sign them in.

This is for their safety.

·Benson Buddies are going on a field trip next week to Meriwether Park. Please be here by 6:30 pm. THEY MUST HAVE A SINGED PERMISSION SLIP TO GO!!!!!!

Caravan Registration

CLASSES AND AGES
Caravan is broken down into 3 groups: Searcher (1 & 2 grade), Explorer (3 & 4 grade) and Adventurer (5 & 6 grade). Those that are 4 or 5 by August 14, 2010 are Benson Buddies.

UNIFORM
The Caravan uniform consists of a white or a Caravan shirt; blue pants/ shorts/skirt; and Caravan scarf or sash (if purchased). The Benson Buddies uniform is a white or Caravan shirt and blue pants/shorts/skirt.

DUES AND BIBLES
Dues are brought in (.50 each night) to be used for our missions* project. Children should bring their Bible. New International Version is recommended, but not required.

WEEKLY MEETING
The Buddies and Caravan journey takes place Wednesday nights August 25 through June 1. We begin at 6:30 PM in the opening room. Parents need to walk their children to the room and sign them in. The room will open at 6:15 pm. Children will learn skills and abilities to help them develop as God planned physically, socially, mentally, and spiritually. Benson Buddies* lessons help them discover the world in which they live and lays a foundation for Christian living. Buddies and Children can be picked up from the Gym at 7:30 pm.

Registration Fees
There is a $35.00 registration fee to help cover the cost of uniforms, badges, and books.

Mommy and Me Playgroup

What: Playtime with your child and other mother's and their children. Locations included local parks, and more.

When: Mondays 10:30am - 12pm

Why: To relax, have fun, meet new moms, discuss parenting issues while allowing the kids to socialize and enjoy other children in a safe and friendly environment.

Missions Sunday and Mission Explosion

This past week our children went to France for Mission Sunday. They made some really cool crafts, took in some sights of France, and had a chance to experience some French cuisine.

While our children have the opportunity to learn about missions once a month during our children’s church they also have the opportunity to go to Mission Explosion 2010. This event is for ALL children grades 1-6. Again, all children are wanted on this fun, fun day (no matter if they read the books or not or may have read only 1). For those children who read 3 missionary books, a special prize will be awarded to them. For those children who read all 6 books, the special prize will be theirs as well as their name will go in a DRAWING for a FREE CAMP SCHOLARSHIP (2 will be given this year for Kids Camp or Jr. High camp for the 6th graders)!!!

When: Saturday, April 10
10 a.m.-1 p.m.

Where: Little Rock 1st Church

Cost: $4 per person (and this includes lunch)

We have so much fun on this day celebrating and learning about the wonderful world and countries that God has blessed us with but also to learn from someone who has actually served in a missional role. This year we will have Matthew Starnes with us. He is a college SR at SNU and will be sharing with our kids of where God has placed him the past 2 summers. What a great way for our Kids to see that being a missionary can start NOW and/or even in college.

Blue and White Sunday

Parents please have your children in their Caravan uniforms this Sunday. A Caravan shirt if they purchased one, if not they can wear a white button down or short sleeve polo, jeans or khaki pants. We will put their scarves and sashes on them when they get there Sunday morning. Please don’t forget to bring the food that you signed up to bring and a dessert.

SuperStart!

What is SuperStart?
SuperStart is a two-day event put on by Christ In Youth that is specifically for pre-teens. It will be held at Church at Battle Creek in Broken Arrow, OK.

During the event, SuperStart wishes to provide avenues for age-appropriate worship, relevant teaching, drama and fun. You can expect the weekend to be filled with Biblical teaching, worship, enthusiasm, small group opportunities and off-site recreation.

Who should attend SuperStart?
SuperStart is designed for students in the 4th, 5th, and 6th grades.

How much does SuperStart cost?
SuperStart is $65 per student. A $25 deposit is due on February 7th

What is included in the cost?
SuperStart Event, Meals, Ice Cream Party, Fun Time on Saturday and Hotel

When is my balance due?
The $40 balance is due on Sunday, February 21.

How can I register?
Fill out the forms and return them and your $25 deposit by February 7.

Should my students bring any additional spending money?
There will be a SuperStart store on site for your students to purchase some fun SuperStart apparel and more. But they do not need to bring any extra money.

What do I need to bring?

Bible, journal, pen, toiletries, and clothes. Please pack light! This means one bag and one personal item.
Electronics are allowed. Leadership is not responsible for lost, stolen, broken or damaged items.

What does the weekend schedule look like?
We will meet at the church on Friday, February 26 at 2:00 pm

and will return on Saturday, February 27 at 7:00 pm

Please beware that you will also need to have a 2009-2010 Medical Release Form on file. The Medical Release Form must be notarized and a Christ In Youth Discipline, Liability and Medical Release Form.

Dear Parents,

On Sunday, February 7th our children that are involved in Caravan will be able to go in front of the congregation with their class to share their class pledge and the Caravan motto and pledges. Please help your child by making sure they have their class pledge and the Caravan motto, purpose and pledges memorized. Also if you haven’t signed up to bring something for the lunch that day please do so in the church lobby on Sunday.

Children's Mission Sunday

Roses for Bulgaria and TCK’s –What do Roses have to do with the European country Bulgaria? In our Mission adventure for the month of January, our children visited the country of Bulgaria and discovered some interesting facts. Flowers are important in Bulgaria. When you go to someone’s home as a guest, you must take flowers. Flowers also are important part of the first day of school. Students bring flowers to their teachers. They gather in the courtyard outside the school with their big bouquet of flowers ready to learn.

Our children learned that being a Third Culture Kid (TCK) is sometimes difficult. People think the most difficult thing for Missionary Kids (MK) to do is to the leave the country where they were born and begin life in a foreign country. However, many MKs who have grown up on the mission field, it is more difficult for them to return home. An MK who is born in one county and grows up in another can show the influences of both countries in the way they speak, think, and act. We call these MKs Third Culture Kids.

Our children experienced some food of the European culture Bulgaria, bread bowl filled with cheese dip, and cabbage rolls from Bulgaria’s neighbor, Romania.

Our classroom was decorated with the atmosphere that reflects Bulgaria. From covering the tables to represent the flag, to fresh cut roses in vases, scattered rose pedals and peppers on the tables. Blue and White Sunday on February 7th

Dear Parents,
Caravan is having a Blue and White Sunday on February 7th. What does this mean? Our children that are involved in Caravan will be able to go in front of the congregation on that Sunday morning with their class to share their class pledge and the Caravan pledges. After service the Caravan members will host a lunch for the church as a thank you to them for supporting this ministry. We need your help. This is what we need from you:
1. Make sure your child comes dressed in their Caravan/Benson Buddies uniform.
2. We need every family to bring a dessert.
3. Sign up to bring one or more of the items that will be served at the lunch (See the display in the church lobby).
4. Help serve and clean up after the meal.
